05/31/2025 Since 2 months

AquaFund is a multi-donor fund of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) focused on water and sanitation investments in the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region, supported by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID, by its Spanish acronym), the Austrian Ministry of Finance, the Swiss Cooperation through the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (COSUDE), and the PepsiCo Foundation.

AquaFund aims to continue supporting mitigation and adaptation efforts to alleviate the effects of extreme events in the LAC region, the efficient and effective use of water resources and its impact on the sustainable development of the Region, and providing financial support for interventions aiming at achieving water security.

Over 3 million dollars annually in co-financing from climate funds is mobilized by AquaFund within the Bank’s active portfolio, showcasing its strong ability to attract climate finance from both internal and external sources.

AquaFund seeks to integrate climate change issues throughout its portfolio across all thematic areas, including initiatives that assist client countries regarding: i) Water security; ii) Solid waste management; iii) Wastewater management; iv) climate-related disaster risk management.
