BNDES and MAPA of Brazil launch selection process for an incentive project to reduce emissions in livestock farming
06/01/2022 Since 2 years

The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) of Brazil, has launched a public selection process for a partner to carry out a study aimed at creating incentive mechanisms for the reduction of carbon emissions in the production of meat and milk in Brazil.

Among the objectives of the study are: 1) to develop a life cycle analysis calculator (a method that evaluates the entire production chain) to assist in the measurement and certification of carbon emissions for the different livestock production models; and, 2) based on this system, to propose mechanisms to stimulate strategies and business models aimed at investing in low-carbon technologies. This could allow the creation of financial instruments linked to the environmental performance goals of meat and dairy producers, such as the BNDES ASG Credit and the BNDES RenovaBio Program.

The selected proposal will receive financial support from BNDES through the BNDES Project Structuring Fund (BNDES FEP). According to the schedule of the public call, companies and institutions interested in developing the technical study must submit their proposals by August 1, 2022.
