BNDES and the Ministry of Mines and Energy open public consultation on the carbon certification market in Brazil

The Brazilian National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MMA) have announced the launch of a public consultation on scenarios for the carbon credit certification market in the country.
For context, according to official figures, two international certifiers have covered 97% of carbon credit certifications in Brazil since year 2005. It is expected that the domestic demand for certification services will increase, following the creation of the Brazilian Emissions Trading System (SBCE) by Law No. 15,042/2024, which also established that methodologies for validating Certificates of Verified Emissions Reduction or Removal (CRVE) must be accredited and registered within the system.
Proposals from interested parties must be submitted before April 25th, 2025.
