BNDES releases resources from the Climate Fund to reforest areas in the Amazon and the Atlantic Forest

Re.green, a climate-solutions startup specializing in large-scale forest restoration, will receive funding in local currency equivalent to approximately 15 million dollars from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) through the Climate Fund, one of the main instruments of the Brazilian Ministry of Environment’s (MMA) Climate Change Policy.
The funds will be used for restoration activities involved in the execution of re.green’s contract with Microsoft (initially signed in May 2024 and later expanded in 2025), covering more than 15,000 hectares in priority areas of the Atlantic Forest and the Amazon, for climate mitigation, biodiversity, and socioeconomic development.
The transaction is guaranteed by Bradesco and provided with ESG consulting services by Bradesco BBI for the development of the company’s Sustainable and Biodiversity Bond Framework. This represents an innovation in climate finance in Brazil by combining public resources, incentivized by the Climate Fund (managed by BNDES), with private instruments to mitigate credit risk.
