BNDES supports innovative wood drying project in the Amazon with resources from the Climate Fund
Madeflona Industrial Madeireira Ltda., a Brazilian firm specializing in timber production value chain from natural forests, has received financing in local currency equivalent to approximately 7.6 million dollars from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), with resources from the Climate Fund, one of the instruments of the National Climate Change Policy and linked to the Brazilian Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MMA), with the purpose of implementing a wood drying unit for native species from sustainable forest management on 141,000 hectares in Itapuã do Oeste (State of Rondonia) in the Amazon region.
Since 2023, BNDES has approved financing equivalent to more than 200 million as part of its strategic forest restoration and conservation agenda. Approximately 56% of this amount corresponds to non-reimbursable resources, approved for three initiatives: “Floresta Viva” (with resources from the BNDES Socio-Environmental Fund), and “Restaura Amazonia” and “Florestas do Bem-Estar” (with resources from the Amazon Fund, in collaboration with the MMA).
