Brazil promotes sustainable production chains in Amazon with IDB support
11/17/2022 Since 1 year

During the recent COP27, the second phase of the Sustainable Rural Project – Amazonia (PRS – Amazonia) was launched, which is intended to promote low-carbon agriculture. The four-year project will be developed in three Brazilian states, supporting six sustainable production chains: açaí, cocoa, Brazil nut, pirarucu fish, round fish and coffee.

The PRS has been running in Brazil for more than a decade and aims to improve farmers’ management of land and forests for sustainable rural development, poverty reduction and biodiversity conservation. So far, around 84 million dollars have been invested, through UK climate finance, in an area of 1.7 million km² in more than 250 municipalities in Brazil.
