Brazil’s first bond focused on biodiversity and social initiatives announced
IDB Invest, IFC (a member of the World Bank Group), and Itaú Unibanco Holding S.A. (Itaú) have completed the issuance of the first bond aimed at supporting social and biodiversity initiatives in Brazil, for an amount in local currency equivalent to 250 million dollars.
IFC, acting as anchor investor, is subscribing 200 million dollars, while IDB Invest is complementing the issuance with a 50-million dollars contribution. The three-year bond is structured in two series within Itaú’s Global Medium-Term Note Program: (i) the first series for 75 million dollars will support biodiversity initiatives, including Itaú and Syngenta’s REVERTE® Program, which aims to regenerate degraded grasslands into productive land, preserve native vegetation, and promote regenerative agriculture; (ii) the second series for 175 million dollars will strengthen Itaú’s loan portfolio dedicated to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Brazil.
In addition, IDB Invest and IFC will strengthen Itaú’s technical capabilities and raise awareness among its clients about financing opportunities for biodiversity in Brazil.
