Climate Bonds released provisional 2024 GSS+ debt market figures
According to preliminary figures from Climate Bonds Initiative (CBI), aligned to CBI methodologies green, social, sustainability and sustainability-linked (GSS+) debt market reached 1.1 trillion dollars in year 2024 and a cumulative historical volume of 5.7 trillion dollars. Green bonds continued to be the largest GSS+ segment in 2024 with 670 billion dollars (or 64% share), followed by social & sustainability (36%) and sustainability-linked (0,7%).
CBI has also identified the five factors that will thrive the flow of GSS+ bonds and loans in year 2025:
• Transition planning will highlight the magnitude of expenditure required to reach net-zero
• New governments (elected in 2024) bolster national ambitions
• Taxonomies: New definitions, and broader interoperability
• Adaptation and resilience expected to increase
• Insurance companies will step in
