Ecuador advances in the formulation of its second Climate Commitment (NDC)
Ecuador is in the process of updating its Climate Commitment, known as the NDC (Nationally Determined Contributions). The United Nations Development Programme in Ecuador (UNDP), through the Climate Promise initiative, is supporting the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Ecological Transition (MAATE) in the formulation of this important public policy tool. This process aims to involve actors from the public and private sectors, academia, and civil society, with a particular focus on including the perspectives of indigenous peoples and local communities.
In this context, nearly 40 representatives of indigenous peoples and nationalities united their commitments in a symbolic act, integrating their voices and ancestral knowledge into the NDC interculturality workshop held in Ambato on August 6th.
This space was enriched with inputs from the Guide for governments to implement NDCs in line with sustainable climate pathways, a document developed by the Climate Promise initiative and UN REDD.
