Green Taxonomy developed by Colombia
09/13/2021 Since 3 years

Colombia’s Green Taxonomy is a classification system for economic activities and assets that contribute to the achievement of the country’s environmental objectives and commitments. The Taxonomy incorporates a set of definitions aimed at supporting different actors in the public and private sector, such as bond issuers, investors, financial institutions, public entities, among others, in the identification and evaluation of investments that can meet environmental objectives and that can be considered green or environmentally sustainable in Colombia.

The Green Taxonomy Colombia seeks to facilitate the identification of projects with environmental objectives, develop green capital markets, and promote the effective mobilisation of private and public resources towards investments that allow the country’s commitments prioritised in the National Development Plan, the Paris Agreement, the Framework Convention on Biological Diversity and the Sustainable Development Goals, among others, to be met.

In the development of this initiative, the Taxonomy Roundtable was created, comprising the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADS), the National Planning Department (DNP), the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE), the Financial Superintendence (SFC) and the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (MHCP). The Bureau was responsible for the co-ordination of the design and implementation of this first phase of the Green Taxonomy.

You are invited to consult the technical documents and send comments to be part of the process of construction of the Green Taxonomy Colombia, before 8 October 2021 to the following emails: finanzasverdesSFC@superfinanciera.gov.co and taxonomia@minhacienda.gov.co
