IDB to Support Suriname in Improving Spatial Planning and Environmental Management

The South American country Suriname will receive a 30-million dollars loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in order to build up its institutional capacity to manage land use.
The project includes initiatives such as: i) the creation of a Green Development Vision Framework and a National Spatial Planning Strategy; ii) the implementation of an environmental information system and a Geospatial Intelligence Center; iii) set up a monitoring mechanism for climate transparency; and iv) the construction of two bioclimatic buildings to house the Ministry of Spatial Planning and Environment and the National Environmental Authority.
The IDB loan has a 22.5-year repayment term and an eight-year grace period.
