Inaugural IDB/OECD report on the Caribbean highlights regional integration and development opportunities

12/16/2024 Since 1 month

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Development Centre of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) launched a new publication, Caribbean Development Dynamics, which provides comprehensive information on how Caribbean countries can maximize their economic potential through energy transition, the blue economy, sustainable tourism and digital transformation.

The publication was launched at an event attended by IDB President Ilan Goldfajn, with the virtual participation of OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann and panel discussions with Caribbean experts.
The report highlights the region’s significant untapped potential for sustainable development, while addressing its unique challenges.

The study focuses its analysis on 15 Caribbean countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bahamas, Belize, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago. To provide a comparative perspective, these Caribbean economies are analyzed alongside Latin American and OECD averages throughout the report. In addition, where relevant, the analysis incorporates a “Greater Caribbean” perspective, including other countries and territories located in the Caribbean Basin.
