The Bahamas to strengthen disaster-risk management with IDB Support
10/01/2025 Since 1 month
The Bahamas will receive a second loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), for 160 million dollars over a 20-year term, with the goal of improving disaster risk management. Previously, in 2023, the IDB provided a first loan to the Bahamas to establish the necessary legal mechanisms for disaster risk management.
The loan funds will allow for the design and adoption of key policy instruments created by the Disaster Risk Management Act, such as national humanitarian assistance standards and a comprehensive disaster management financial strategy. In addition, authorities will create an information system based on past disasters and projected scenarios in order to improve informed decision-making.
