The economic potential of restoration in the Amazon
05/06/2025 Since 1 month
IDB Invest published an infographic that presents a visual, data-driven overview of the economic and environmental benefits of scaling up forest restoration in Brazil’s Legal Amazon.
A potential initiative to restore 10% of the total degraded area in the Brazilian Legal Amazon (2,7 million hectare) would entail a significant amount of resources (12,9 billion dollars in CAPEX), but would trigger a massive annual carbon sequestration volume (26.9 million tCO2e) as well.
According to the study and the assumptions adopted, restoration in the Amazon may reach an annual income of up to 675 dollars per hectare, becoming a profitable and concrete alternative to extensive cattle in the region.
