The European Parliament agrees to include gas and nuclear energy in taxonomy
07/06/2022 Since 2 years

The European Union taxonomy is part of the European Commission’s action plan to finance sustainable growth, and aims to promote green investment and prevent companies greenwashing.

Beginning July 2022, the European Parliament has rejected a motion against the inclusion of nuclear energy and gas as environmentally sustainable economic activities. The Commission considers that private investment in gas and nuclear energy has its role in the ecological transition and for this reason it has proposed that certain activities related to fossil gas and nuclear energy should be considered as transitional activities that contribute to mitigating climate change. Such inclusion will be time-limited and must meet specific transparency requirements. The taxonomy will become effective on January 1, 2023.
