- Unlocking Green and Just Hydrogen in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Inter-American Development Bank’s (IDB) published a study that provides an overview of the key findings and recommendations from a comprehensive document on the deployment of green low-carbon hydrogen (GLCH) in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).
The report highlights the potential of LAC to become a global leader in GLCH production (both for export and domestic use), leveraging its abundant renewable energy resources and existing infrastructure.
Authors state that LAC region may require assistance in accessing public funds compared to other countries, being innovative structures and blended finance necessary to mobilize private sector capital. Furthermore, additional studies are needed to fully exploit LAC’s potential for adequate GLCH production.
The IDB has been actively supporting governments and private actors in the region (technical assistance and financial support) to develop and establish an industry for the production, local adoption, and export of GLCH and its primary derivatives, including ammonia and methanol.
