04/01/2022 Since 2 years

The program “Support for the implementation of the Energy Transition in Mexico” (TrEM) of GIZ Mexico developed a study that aimed to identify relevant international experiences and critical variables in the financing of Distributed Solar Generation (DSG) portfolios, to find the strategies and measures used in these experiences and their potential adoption in the Mexican context. The study analyzed: +20 DSG portfolio financing projects, 8 different national and international geographic regions and involved +50 stakeholders including developers and financial institutions.

What is a DSG project portfolio?

In general DSG project portfolios refer to a grouping of small solar projects that meet some of the following criteria:

• Set of projects that are developed from the same financing process.
• Projects that are selected from within the same portfolio for which refinancing will be granted.
• Usually the ownership of the assets comprising the portfolio is contained in the same SPV or trust.
• The income from the projects contained within the portfolio are paid into the same account.
