IDB and Banco do Brasil Launch Program to Promote Biodiversity and Climate Action
09/21/2023 Since 10 months

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Banco do Brasil launch the “Bioeconomy Program for the Amazon – BB Amazonía IDB-Banco do Brasil” with financing for an amount of 250 million dollars, that is part of a 1-billion-dollars Conditional Credit Line for Investment Projects (CCLIP).

The objective of the program is to promote sustainable bioeconomy and infrastructure initiatives for the Legal Amazon, with an emphasis on connectivity and renewable energy sources. The initiative seeks to promote an inclusive and sustainable development model in the region based on two components: i) support the development of bio-businesses and rural producers that are part of the Amazon’s bioeconomy value chains; ii) financing projects to generate energy from renewable sources and improve connectivity in urban, rural and forest areas of the Legal Amazon, prioritizing isolated localities.

Another relevant aspect of the program is IDB’s technical support to train local players in the development and improvement of bioeconomy projects.
