BNDES approves financing via Climate Fund for the construction of a biogas and electricity production unit in Mato Grosso
01/04/2023 Since 2 years

The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) of Brazil has approved the financing via the Climate Fund for an amount in local currency equivalent to about 15 million dollars in favor of UISA Geo Biogás S/A, for the construction of an industrial unit for the production of biomethane and electricity from sugarcane residues.

The Climate Fund, a National Climate Change Policy instrument from the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment, guarantees resources to support and finance projects or studies that aim to mitigate climate change.

The plant, to be located in Nova Olympia (Matto Grosso state), will have a production capacity of up to 11.4 million Nm³/year of biogas and up to 32,000 MWh/year of electricity (in its first phase). The project will contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, capturing 9.1 million tons of carbon (according to a tool developed by BNDES in collaboration with the Getúlio Vargas Foundation), equivalent to planting 63 million trees. The start-up date is scheduled for the end of 2024.
