BNDES will finance the implementation of four wind farms in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil
04/03/2023 Since 1 year

A joint-venture between the Brazilian company Casa dos Ventos and the French company Total Energies, has received financing from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) for an amount in local currency equivalent to approximately 180 million dollars for the implementation of four wind farms. Each of the wind farms will be owned by an independent Special Purpose Entity (SPE) and controlled by the JV’s holding company.

The farms will make up the Umari Wind Complex with a total installed capacity of 202.5 MW, to be located in different municipalities of the state of Rio Grande do Norte in Brazil. The proceeds will be used for the acquisition and installation of wind turbines and the execution of civil works, in addition to the implementation of a transmission system associated with the project.

The energy generated by the project will benefit more than 500,000 households and it is estimated that will avoid the emission of more than 520,000 tons of CO2 per year. The Complex is expected to come into operation by mid-2024.
