The federal government is working to issue sustainable bonds in the foreign market from September. According to the Secretary of the National Treasury, Rogério Ceron, the issuance of the bonds will mark a “concrete step for Brazil” within the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) agenda.

June saw the first meeting of the Sustainable Sovereign Finance Committee, chaired by the Secretary of the Treasury, which will be responsible for developing the framework for the issuances and, subsequently, the accountability process for the commitments signed in the issuances.

The framework will guide the issuance of sustainable bonds by presenting to investors Brazil’s commitments on the ESG and financial agenda, as well as bringing the guidelines and criteria adopted to launch the papers in the market.
