Integrated Climate-Resilient Coastal Zone Management, Governance and Performance Indicators in the Bahamas
06/30/2024 Since 3 weeks

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has recently published a document that describes the case study of the application of the Climate-Resilient Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) Performance Indicators framework in The Bahamas in year 2022. The assessment was conducted by the IDB, in collaboration with the Government of The Bahamas.

The ICZM framework was originally developed in year 2018 by the IDB and the World Resources Institute (WRI), as a diagnostic tool to help countries in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region assess the extent to which they have established the governance conditions, the technical capacity of institutions, implementation practices, monitoring and evaluation frameworks, and the information necessary to sustainably manage coastal areas in the face of evolving climate variability and climate change.

The assessment for The Bahamas found that the application of the IDB’s ICZM framework will allow the Government to objectively monitor and follow the progress and challenges of its own ICZM public policy. The recommendations that flow from this assessment were captured in the Bahamas “Roadmap to a Resilient ICZM Enabling Framework”.
