The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Government of Switzerland announced an alliance to stimulate the sustainable and inclusive development of the Amazon region through IDB’s “Amazon Initiative”.
The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of the Government of Switzerland (SECO) will contribute with approximately 8 million dollars to the Amazon Bioeconomy and Forest Management Multi-Donor Trust Fund.
The Amazon Initiative, which currently has 340 million dollars in pledged funds, was established in response to a request from eight Amazonian countries to implement a focused effort aimed at promoting sustainable development models based on human capital, biodiversity and the cultural heritage of the region.
