Renewable energy project from Chile will have financing with carbon markets
05/12/2024 Since 2 months

The Minister of Energy from Chile, Diego Pardow, has announced that the Alto Baguales Wind Farm expansion could be partially financed considering the criteria contained in Article 6 of the Paris Agreement for greenhouse gases mitigation.

In December 2023, during COP28, Chile and Switzerland had signed an implementation agreement, which enables the international transfer of mitigation results from one country to another, allowing the financing of projects and the fulfillment of climate commitments. In this way, the Alto Baguales project will be financed from the carbon markets based on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, which allows cooperative approaches between countries.

The Alto Baguales Wind Farm is the first of its kind on an industrial scale in Chile, with a total installed capacity of 4 MW from four wind turbines (installed in two phases between 2015 and 2019).
