The multinational fishing and aquaculture company Blumar Seafoods and its subsidiaries PacificBlu, St. Andrews and Frío Pacífico, announced that they will use 100% clean energy from renewable sources, such as wind, solar, geothermal and hydroelectric, in their production processes.
To this end, they signed a power supply agreement (PPA) with the Chilean company Enel Generación, after a bidding process carried out by the consulting firm MatchEnergía. The contract will run for 4 years, for an estimated total annual generation of 72 GWh.
The milestone involves the companies obtaining a green certification and seal from I-REC (International Renewable Energy Certificates), which among other benefits will bring: energy traceability; certification of origin and ownership; minimisation of environmental and social impact; sustainability management with a model in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically goal 13 “Climate Action”.
