The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) of Brazil has approved the contract to receive two new donations to its Amazon Fund; the US will donor 3 million dollars and Switzerland an amount equivalent to approximately 6 million dollars.
The US and Switzerland join Norway, Germany and Petrobras in the BNDES Amazon Fund, currently the world largest instrument for reducing emissions derived from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+). The Amazon Fund, created in 2008, provides non-reimbursable support for actions aimed to prevent, monitor and combat deforestation and the conservation and sustainable use of the legal Amazon.
