The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) of Brazil announced that the consortium led by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) (and comformed by the companies Imaflora, Agrotools, Waycarbon, WRI and DSM) was the winner of the public selection process to carry out the studies of the “Low Carbon Livestock” initiative.
The initiative aims to develop strategies and business models that adopt low-carbon technologies in the production of meat and milk in Brazil, promoting sustainability through the evaluation and certification of carbon emissions avoided.
The study consists of two main deliverables: 1) product life cycle analysis calculator to measure and certify carbon emissions from inputs in agricultural production to industrial processing; 2) incentive mechanisms that stimulate investments in emission reduction, both in the agricultural stage and in the industrialization of bovine meat and milk.
