BNDES finances forestry program of Veracel company in the south of Bahia, Brazil
09/13/2022 Since 2 years

The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) has approved financing to the company Veracel Celulose S.A. (controlled by the Brazilian Suzano S.A. and the Swedish-Finnish Stora Enso Amsterdam B.V.) for an amount in local currency equivalent to about 40 million dollars. The funds will be used to carry out a program that aims to maintain a forest base of up to 31.5 thousand hectares of eucalyptus for the operation of its pulp mill.

The project contributes to the expansion and diversification of income in the surrounding communities. Veracel supports local producers in the structuring of planting (seedlings, fertilizers and pesticides), as well as in the transfer of technology and knowledge.

Veracel has certifications from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the National Forest Certification Program (Cerflor) and ISO 14001.
