WEG Equipamentos Elétricos, a global company specialized in the manufacture and sale of electric motors, transformers, wind turbines and automation, will receive financing from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) of Brazil for an amount in local currency equivalent to about 12 million dollars, which will be aimed at developing a new wind turbine that will lead to efficient energy generation in Brazilian wind farms.
The financing will be implemented through BNDES Finem with resources from the Renewable Energy Climate Fund. The new wind turbine will have a record 7.0 MW capacity and a 172-meters rotor blade in diameter, using a new technology that allows optimizing the weight of the components, flexibility in transportation and installation, as well as operational reliability. It is estimated that this new model will allow additional 13 thousand tons of CO2 equivalent avoided emissions during its useful life.
