The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) has signed a contract with the mixed-economy company Urbanização de Curitiba S.A. (URBS) to support structuring a new public transportation services concession project in Curitiba (capital city Paraná State, Brazil), within the Curitiba Sustainable Mobility Plan.

BNDES will be responsible for monitoring all stages of the bidding process for the new concession, including hiring consultancy to perform studies, interacting with bidders and interested parties, conducting public consultations and supporting the bidding itself.

The project aims to redesign bus lines, increase the energy efficiency of the system and implement a gradual solution to decarbonize the fleet. The goal will be to reach 33% electric buses by 2030 and 100% electrified fleet by 2050, reducing CO2 emissions to zero.
