The Brazilian Government, through the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, has approved resources for an amount in local currency equivalent to nearly 76 million dollars in environmental compensation for federal, state and municipal Conservation Units (UCs) for the year 2023.
The resource allocation will improve and strengthen the implementation of existing protected areas. The majority (60% of the total amount) will be applied to land regularization actions. The UCs are created after a detailed process of technical studies that assess the natural attributes of each territory, guaranteeing the ecosystem services provided by these areas, particularly for the conservation of biodiversity and the control of deforestation. This is one of the fundamental actions for Brazil to move towards the zero-deforestation goal by 2030.
