Brazil creates the Synthesis Center on Environmental and Climate Change
02/27/2023 Since 1 year

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) of Brazil has launched the Synthesis Center on Environmental and Climate Change (called SIMAClim), which will be key in the generation of information based on scientific evidence and aimed at decision makers.

The SIMAClim project will be conducted by the CLIMA Network, linked to the MCTI. It is an institutional instrument for the implementation of the National Climate Change Policy (PNMC) and its objective is to promote the generation of knowledge and scientific and technological progress in the topics related to climate change.

The project will be financed with an investment of nearly 2 million dollars, to be executed in installments over 48 months, with resources from the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FNDCT), to be released through the Funding Authority for Studies and Projects (FINEP).

The synthesis works will effectively contribute to the diagnosis and evaluation of the fulfillment of those goals assumed by the country in its national and international commitments, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC). Research focused on the synthesis of knowledge has strong co-production characteristics, seeking the participation of different actors, not only from the academic and non-academic communities, but also from decision-makers in the public and private spheres.
