The Chilean Ministry of Finance formalized the creation of the Green Finance Office, which will be part of the International Finance Coordination. Since 2019, Chile has issued US$ 7.7 billion in green bonds, and promoted initiatives such as the Public-Private Green Finance Table and a platform for cooperation in matters of climate action and finance, at the local and international level.

The new office will inter alia be responsible for channelling investments into green assets and promoting financial innovation that supports the country’s sustainable, low-carbon and climate-resilient development trajectory.

It will also be responsible for supporting the Ministry of Finance in relations with international bodies and organisations in matters of sustainable development and climate finance. It will also advise other state administration bodies on matters related to sustainable development and climate finance, climate change mitigation and adaptation instruments, and other issues related to sustainable finance.
