ENGIE starts operation of the largest wind power plant in Peru promoted by IDB Invest
07/03/2023 Since 10 months

ENGIE Energía Perú, a power generation company, has announced the commissioning of the Punta Lomitas Wind Power Plant, with a nominal capacity of 260 MW. The Plant has 50 wind turbines (plus 7 wind turbines from its planned expansion), two electrical substations; and 60 km of transmission lines that connect the plant with the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN). After completing its 36.4 MW expansion, it will increase its total capacity to 296.4 MW.

The construction of the Plant was financed by an 11-year loan fully subscribed by IDB Invest of up to 300 million dollars, which includes 100 million dollars resources mobilized from FMO, a Dutch business development bank, and 55 million dollars from the leading European bank BNP Paribas.

The Plant start-up means avoiding more than 230,000 tons of CO2 per year. Moreover, the Plant will help Peru to increase the non-conventional renewable energy (ERNC) share in its energy matrix, aiming to achieve the national goal set in its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) of reducing its total GHG emissions by 30% against its 2030 baseline.
