The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has released its new “GRI 101: Biodiversity 2024” Standard (updates and will replace GRI 304: Biodiversity 2016) that sets a new global benchmark in accountability and disclosure on biodiversity impacts.

Some of the key improvements in the new Standard include: i) full transparency throughout the supply chain; ii) location-specific reporting on impacts; iii) new disclosures on the direct drivers of biodiversity loss; iv) requirements for reporting impacts on society.

The new Standard will be formally in effect for reporting on January 1^st 2026, meanwhile over the next two years, GRI will pilot the use of the Standard with early adopters.
