IDB and Sweden sign guarantee partnership to boost the Amazonia Forever program
The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) has formalized a financing guarantee partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), increasing the Bank’s lending capacity for the Amazonia Forever program by 469 million dollars.
Amazonia Forever is a holistic umbrella program that aims at protecting biodiversity and accelerating sustainable development by facilitating regional coordination among the eight Amazonian countries. The guarantee will allow the IDB to allocate additional resources to invest in forest conservation and sustainable forest management, sustainable and resilient landscapes, and bioeconomy in the Amazonian countries.
Through this partnership, Sweden becomes a new partner-country of IDB’s Amazonia Forever program, joining others such as Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Spain, Israel, AWEX of Belgium, Italy and the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
