The fishing industry in Peru generates 15% of the gross domestic product and around 245,000 jobs. Pesquera Exalmar, a leading Peruvian company dedicated to the capture, processing and commercialization of marine products, will receive financing of up to 40 million dollars from IDB Invest.

The 8-year term loan will allow Exalmar to increase the productivity of its operations, acting as an ally for purchases and financing of the supply chain with a focus on micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). The financing scheme is innovative by including a weather clause for capital rescheduling as a result of potential weather events affecting Exalmar’s ability to pay.

Additionally, IDB Invest and specialized experts in biodiversity and decarbonization will provide technical advice to Exalmar and support the development of a sustainability strategy for the company.
