IDB launches “Amazonia Forever” program to boost coordination for the region
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has launched a holistic umbrella program called “Amazonia Forever”, which seeks to expand financing, share strategic knowledge for decision makers, and improve regional coordination to accelerate the sustainable, inclusive, and resilient development of the Amazon region (including Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru and Suriname).
Amazonia Forever will address priority areas including: local population, sustainable agriculture and forestry, bioeconomy, infrastructure, sustainable cities, and connectivity. The program presents a triple approach consisting of:
• Platform to map all existing financial resources dedicated to the Amazon
• Creation of a “Project Preparation Facility” to develop investment plans for the Amazonian territories
• Network of Ministers of Finance and Planning and a technical group, supported by the IDB, that will monitor the progress and results of Amazonia Forever
