Mexico launches project for the Sustainable Management of the Mexican Seas

The Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development of Mexico, with the financial support of the French Development Agency and together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, launched a 5-year project for the Sustainable Management of the Mexican Seas, which aims to guarantee food self-sufficiency, resilience and communities well-being in Mexico.

The objective of the project is to generate a change process in the national policy to promote the transformation and sustainable management of fishing and aquaculture systems, contribute to food self-sufficiency and the well-being of coastal fishermen and reduce their vulnerability to the adverse effects of change climate.

It also considers the generation of financial mechanisms that allow guaranteeing the sustainability of these areas and strengthening the institutional capacities for the establishment, operation and renovation of the Fishing Refuge Zones.
