Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) announced to its investors its ESG strategy, aimed at reducing its environmental impact and improving the energy management systems of its industrial activities.

In October 2021, Pemex Risk Committee published an initial 3-year program to address environmental risks. In total, 225 risks were detected by Pemex in its ESG compliance strategy, distributed in 5 priority levels, with an estimated cost to address all of them of more than 450 million dollars. During year 2022, 36 top priority environmental risks are expected to be addressed.

The estimated costs include: modernization of facilities, implementation of air pollution monitoring and control systems and mechanisms, acquisition of equipment to deal with contingencies related to oil spills, among others.
