Second meeting Brazil-China Dialogues on Sustainable Agriculture
08/04/2022 Since 2 years

On August 3rd, 2022, the second meeting of the Brazil-China Dialogues on Sustainable Agriculture was held in Rio de Janeiro, organized by the Brazil-China Business Council (CEBC) and the Institute of Finance and Sustainability (IFS).

IFS’s President Ma Jun stressed that Brazil and China should advance in a common taxonomy with classification criteria that allow the financing of low-carbon sustainable agriculture projects linked to fighting the effects of climate change.

José Angelo Mazzilo Junior, Minister of Agriculture of Brazil agreed on the consensus of a bilateral taxonomy that could be applied to other sectors beyond agriculture. Hsia Hua Sheng, vice-president of the Bank of China in Brazil, suggested that the best scenario would be a common taxonomy between Brazil, China and the European Union, facilitating the granting of credit and adding more investors and international banks to the initiative.

Jayme Pinto Junior, Director of Foreign Trade and Corporate Banking at Banco do Brasil highlighted the role of financing in the transformation of agribusiness.
