The Banker, the prestigious international financial publication, has announced the awards for the best deals of the year 2022 in the Americas. Among the award-winning firms and governments are several representatives from Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Government of Mexico was recognized in the category “Bonds: Sovereign, Supranational and Agencies” for the inaugural issuance of a sustainable bond denominated in dollars of 2.2 billion.

Uruguay was also awarded in the category of “Sustainable Finance” for the issuance in October 2022 of the first sovereign bond linked to sustainability (SLB), with a step-down mechanism that is activated if it reaches certain environmental targets. The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) supported the Uruguayan Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) to prepare the framework for issuing its first sovereign bond with a price tied to sustainability indicators.

The almost 7 billion dollars privatization of Electrobras, the Brazilian electricity generation and distribution company, was one of the largest equity deal of the year 2022. About 97% of Electrobras’ power generation comes from clean sources, including hydroelectric, wind and nuclear.

Finally, the Brazilian bank Bradesco stands out for the issuance in May 2022 of the first Agribusiness Accounts Receivable Certificates (CRA) denominated in dollars.
