The webinar “The circular economy as the key element in the race to net zero greenhouse gas emissions” discussed the importance of the circular economy in the transition path to net zero emissions. In particular, how financial institutions and their clients complement each other to find solutions to the challenges and barriers in the transition.

The legislative landscape to promote the circular economy in Latin America and the Caribbean, lessons learned, challenges and opportunities were discussed.

The presentation was followed by a discussion on how banks incorporate the circular economy into their business strategies, the race to net zero and the steps to decarbonize business portfolios:
– problem identification
– involving stakeholders in the search for solutions
– implementing strategies and solutions in key sectors

Finally, national policies and NDCs that already incorporate the circular economy and their potential impact on economic growth at the national and/or regional level were discussed. The possible effects on national agreements and infrastructure and sustainable urbanization projects in the face of the race to net zero and that incorporate the circular economy.
