Banco de Crédito e Inversiones (BCI) from Chile has been selected in the first place among the most sustainable companies in Chile according to the Merco ESG ranking. With sustainability as one of BCI’s strategic pillars, the financial institution has promoted a series of initiatives that aim to generate a positive impact on people’s lives, including for example, contributing to financial inclusion through the digital account MACH, its “Valor Pyme” program (aimed at SMEs and entrepreneurs), and its financial education program “Con Letra Grande”.

During year 2022, BCI has issued green bonds for 314 million dollars, which have granted sustainable financing for 9 projects with a positive environmental impact. On the other hand, since year 2018, BCI has been developing an “Operational Eco-Efficiency Plan” that covers five areas: energy, water, paper, waste and carbon dioxide, to reduce to the maximum the emissions of greenhouse gases by year 2028, and also targeting only 10% of the waste generated by the bank from non-recyclable materials. Additionally, it has a robust diversity and inclusion policy with a 100% inclusive selection process.

Finally, BCI has become the first bank in the region to adhere to the Responsible Banking Principles of the Financial Initiative of the United Nations Program for the Environment (UNEP FI) and to measure the emissions of its wholesale clients portfolio with PCAF methodology (Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials).
