Mexico launches platform to monitor climate change mitigation and adaptation actions
08/17/2022 Since 2 years

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), the National Institute of Ecology and Climate Change (INECC)  and the German Cooperation for Sustainable Development Mexico (GIZ Mx) presented the Information System of the Transparency Agenda for Climate Actions at the Subnational Level (SIAT – Subnational), which will allow states entities to yearly evaluate their progress in the implementation of mitigation measures for Greenhouse Gases (GHG) and adaptation to climate change, in a transparent and reliable manner.

In the SIAT-Subnational platform, the 32 Mexican states will be able to report, monitor, verify and evaluate the adaptation and mitigation actions implemented in their territories and will be part of the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) that Mexico will present to the Convention United Nations Framework on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in compliance with the commitments signed in the Paris Agreement.

The platform includes 8 mitigation actions focused on the areas of waste, transport and energy, and 19 adaptation actions that correspond to the 5 thematic axes of Mexico’s climate commitments.

The system will be operational through the Semarnat website at https://siatsubnacional.semarnat.gob.mx/
