Forests for Climate: scaling up forest conservation to reach net zero
09/20/2022 Since 2 years

The World Economic Forum (WEF) recently published a white paper report on the importance of promoting the conservation of forests, especially tropical forests, to combat climate change and conserve biodiversity. Natural climate solutions, including forest conservation and restoration, can provide a third of the mitigation needed to reach the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5° C. Deforestation is responsible for nearly 15% of global CO2 emissions.

The book proposes jurisdictional approaches to REDD+ as a way to make a significant contribution to preserving the world’s forests, driving change through four key challenges: scale, financing, integrity, and inclusion. It also details the opportunities for private sector engagement in the global effort required to reverse deforestation by year 2030. The report also includes case studies from Brazil, Ecuador, Ghana, and Vietnam to show compelling examples of large-scale forest conservation.
