IDB leads meeting to address climate change at the International Transport Forum
05/25/2023 Since 12 months

The annual summit of the International Transport Forum (ITF) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) was held in May with the participation of representatives from governments, the private sector, academia and civil society, gathered to share perspectives on the role of transport as a key enabler of inclusive and sustainable economic development.

Among other issues discussed, the IDB participated in the round table “Transportation with low carbon emissions for equitable growth”, which aimed to i) highlight the achievements and potential of the transport sector decarbonization in the Latin America and the Caribbean region, ii) discuss the challenges and potential opportunities for cleaner transport, and iii) identify the policies and projects at the forefront of efficient and equitable mobility with low carbon emissions in the region.

Moreover, the multilateral development banks announced that they had reached a contribution of 3.6 billion dollars for road safety projects in developing countries in the period 2018-2022, showing their commitment to address the global health crisis and achieve the United Nations objective of halving road fatalities in the region by 2030.
