During the Annual Meeting of the IDB and IDB Invest Boards of Governors, held in Panama, representatives from Amazon countries and IDB non-regional member countries discussed the challenges that faces the Amazon region and the unique capacity of the IDB Group to respond in a timely and coordinated manner.

Amazon countries reaffirmed their firm commitment to reduce deforestation and identify sustainable methods to protect the forest, providing real economic opportunities for local communities.

The goal of the IDB is to coordinate an Amazon regional program that provides an overall framework for existing (including the IDB Amazon Initiative) and future efforts of a broader coalition of countries and organizations committed to its sustainable, resilient, and inclusive development. IDB commits to contribute to: 1) Promote regional integration; 2) Support high-impact investments and informed policies; 3) Lead a close dialogue with indigenous peoples, local communities and afro-descendants.
